40 Not out .. ..!

Our premier readers ..please do grace this page with your memories ....... ?!

  1. Congrats sir.

  3. One thing I would like to see in the upcoming comics classics issues is for those old Muthu covers to make a comeback. The new covers by your artists are nice but nothing would beat the thrill of getting soemthing like "Kolaigara Kalaignan" or "uraipani marmam" with the original cover that Mr. Soundarapandian used in the original Muthu issues.

I was 8 or 9 years old when I got the first issue of Muthu "Irumbukkai Mayavi". Until then the only comics I used to get were the Marvel comics & Gold Key comics my dad would buy for me at Higginbothams in Mount road, and teh comics I would take out from Easwari library. I also used to get Indrajal (in tamil) delivered to my house by our paper delivery man. One day the paper delivery guy mentioned that that a new comic book named Muthu is out and asked me if I would like to read it. My parents ordered it and since then I got every single issue of Muthu delivered to my house until I went to college in 1981. While in college I lost interest in comics and so I missed the launch of Lion in the 80's. So I was totally unfamiliar with Spider, Archie, Tex Willer etc until my interest got renewed in 2000 when I saw the discussion in forum hub. Now I realize what a loss it was that I had stopped my subscription in 1981. I had missed out on all the wonderful Bernard Prince, XIII, and other stories that the young editor Vijayan had brought out and introduced to the Tamil comics world.

Anyway, to make a long story short, many thanks to Vijayan for bringing out the Comics Classics so that I can relive my memories as a comics lover in the 60's and 70's. I also love the European comics like Tex Willer, Blueberry and others that I had never had the chance to enjoy when they first came out, but thanks to Lion, I am able to enjoy now. Keep up the good work.

  9. Sir,

I was missing comic books for a long time. I was born in Salem and living in Tirupur. Nowadays I couldn't find any comic books in both the places. May be I couldn't locate the right book stalls due to work busy. Can you pls advise me how can I subscripe Muthu & Lion comics and advise if I can get the older copies of both. Actually I had a big collection of both. At the time of my HSC exams, my parents gave all the collections to somebody else. Now I hv to collect and give all these to my son.

You can also mail me. My email Id is a.noushadh@gamil.com.

Thanks a lot for coming on blog.

  12. At this nostalgic moment..i want to emphasize that it pains to see comic classics in pocket size. I vote that we can have just one issue reprinted but in its original size. When i open my old "Urai pani Marmam", I am still fascinated by the clarity of the pictures and the effect it produces on the readers. Its is plainly missing in the new comic classics.

  18. Welcome back and all the very best.

    Post to blog on 6/1/2012

Subscription for the forth coming 7 issues.

On 8/1/2011 I had sent Rs 305 (for the special issue Rs 230 and for the forthcoming 7 issues Rs 75). Out of the 7 issues only the first 2 issues have reached me in March and the other 5 issues are yet to be received by me. You had indicated that all the books are ready for despatch within a month. Your office people have been kind enough to phone me and write to me to assure that the balance 5 copies will be sent to me in due course and till date the subscription copies have not reached me.

At this stage I wish to bring to your attention, that despite your irregular timings, you have built a core loyal readership, which will grow if you bring in a disciplined regularity in your bringing out your issues and it will grow.

After all being in this business for close to 4 decades is no mean achievement. I still remember the good old days in 1972 / 1973 when I use to travel from Santa Cruz to Matunga to get my copy of Muthu Comics (It used to be regular in those days). In fact I am preserving most of them with the fond hope that my grand children will read them.

Coming back to the present, I request that you take early steps to send me the balance 5 issues of the comics. Further now I find from the blog that you have come out with a “Come Back Special’. Please let me know how I can get my copy at my home. (I am not in a position to go all the way to the book fair.I shall be thankful to have a reply to my email.

Thanks and all the very best and once again congratulation and be proud about your venture. It is a great achievement

  20. Hello Vijayan,

I noticed that 5 or 6 stories from Blueberry series (Captain Tiger) were still not appeared in Muthu comics:

    Arizona Love
    Mister Blueberry
    Ombres Sur Tombstone
    Geronimo L'Apache
    OK Corral
    Dust

Please consider publishing one of these stories in "Muthu Special".

  21. Amar,

There are still quite a number of Blueberry tales yet to find their way to our comics ; they will soon be published !

  22. Hello Vijayan,

Irumbukai Mayavi is really great!!. That was my first tamil comics..I can never forget my first and one of the best heroes introduced by Muthu comics. One suggestion, Can you release the comics as ebooks also which would have wide appeal. please consider

    1. Edwin, I come from the old school that firmly believes there can just be no substitute for the pleasure of reading a real book....! E-books might be the savvy option today...but I don't quite get the same thrill from these electronic versions. Comics is not just the pleasure of reading....it invokes the thrills associated with collecting them ; safe guarding them ; exchanging them with friends ; memories of smuggling them to school and what not! Let us hang on to the physical version of the books.,at least until they go extinct! :-)

    2. Edwin, my 2 cents == E-books doesn't work out in INDIA, where piracy is very high (people don't even realize that it is stealing).

      Thanks,
